Escola Secundária de Casquilhos, which belongs to Agrupamento de Escolas de Casquilhos, a School Grouping formed in January 2013, is a state secondary school located in Barreiro, a Municipality with about 79 000 inhabitants situated on the south bank of river Tagus, 40 km away from Lisbon.
It is a school that stands out for the special bond that all members of the school community have with it, which is the result of the special human environment it manages to promote. Its architectural style also distinguishes it from all the other schools. The school buildings, which are all different from each other, are spread over a huge area of land that has diverse green spaces, being a eucalyptus plantation one of them.
It has 57 teachers and 571 students that attend 23 classes, from the 7th to the 12th form. However, one must say that it is mainly an upper-secondary school as 19 of its classes are attended by 10th, 11th and 12th graders.
Apart from ministering general education courses, which include three scientific-humanistic courses (Sciences and Technologies, Languages and Humanities and Visual Arts), it also offers five professional courses (Fashion Design, Interior and Exterior Design, Graphic Design, Marketing and Commerce), as well as two education and training courses (Commercial Techniques and Computer Operator).
It is a very dynamic school which proactively and diligently works to promote welcoming environments which foster effective teaching, learning, and student achievement. High impact teaching strategies, which include new technologies, are used on a daily basis and different kinds of activities within the curriculum of all subjects, as well as local, national and international projects are carried out so as to help our students achieve their highest potential and motivate them to pursue higher education.
Another especial feature of our school is the fact that it is a multicultural mosaic as students from many different countries/cultures are enrolled in it. Therefore, promoting activities and projects aimed at fostering a culture of human rights is also part of our school routine so as to instil in our students a sense of respect towards all other human beings and help them become active and informed citizens who are aware of and exercise their fundamental human rights and responsibilities in everyday life.
In short, we are an inclusive school which educates and prepares all children and youth to achieve their highest potential and contribute to society, no matter their socioeconomic background or place of origin.
